What is a wagering requirement?
A wagering requirement—also called playthrough or rollover—is the total amount that must be bet before bonus funds or associated winnings become eligible for withdrawal.
Casinos use these requirements to prevent a bonus from being claimed and immediately withdrawn. Every eligible bet contributes toward the target whether that bet wins or loses, but the contribution rate can vary by game.
A requirement may apply to the bonus only or to the deposit plus bonus. The difference can materially change the wagering target.
Turn the multiplier into a real amount
If an offer provides an R100 bonus with a 10× bonus-only wagering requirement, the player must place R1,000 in eligible wagers before withdrawal.
The multiplier applies only to the bonus credit.
The same multiplier produces a larger target.
Examples are illustrative. Always use the exact formula stated in the promotion terms.
Game contribution can change the pace
Not every game necessarily counts at the same rate. A R10 bet on a 100% contribution game adds the full R10 to progress, while the same bet at 20% contribution adds only R2.
| Game category | Typical contribution pattern | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Slots | Often contributes at a higher rate | Excluded titles and maximum bet |
| Table games | May contribute at a reduced rate | Blackjack and roulette restrictions |
| Live casino | Can be reduced or excluded | Eligible tables and bet types |
| Sports betting | Depends on offer-specific terms | Minimum odds and qualifying markets |
Contribution rates vary by promotion and platform; this table describes common patterns, not guaranteed rates.
Manage the requirement—not the other way around
Do not increase your stake simply to finish the requirement faster.
Make sure the required playthrough is realistic within the claim window.
A bet above the permitted amount may void bonus progress.
Choose eligible games only if they also fit your budget and preferences.
Check these six terms before opting in
- Is the multiplier based on the bonus or deposit plus bonus?
- Which games contribute, and at what percentage?
- Is there a maximum bet while the bonus is active?
- When does the bonus and its wagering progress expire?
- Is there a maximum withdrawal from bonus winnings?
- Do payment methods or player groups affect eligibility?
Compare the total playthrough
A bigger headline bonus is not always the better offer once the wagering requirement is calculated.
